Emergence – Issue 2
Regular price SFr. 33.00 Save SFr. -33.00It’s hard to reflect on the past year without feeling like we’ve entered a fictional tale. And yet here we are: not only has COVID-19 taken root around the world, but wildfires have raged across the Arctic Circle, Brazil, Australia, and the western United States; people have risen up to stand against racial injustice, and it feels as though we're witnessing only the beginning of a deep fracturing of this civilization. We do not yet know the changes that will come to light locally and globally.
Volume II of our print edition speaks to the multiple crises and opportunities unfolding around us: plague, extinctions, and loneliness grip us ever tighter even as they affirm our connection with the living world. Across 400 pages—and through essays, photography, adapted multimedia, poems, and original artwork—this collection considers the stories that we want to seed in these mythological times. Contributors include Pulitzer prize winners and finalists Forrest Gander, Richard Powers, Elizabeth Rush, David Haskell, and Linda Hogan; acclaimed writers, poets, and artists Robert Macfarlane, Camille T. Dungy, Jake Skeets, Brenda Hillman, Katie Holten, Sheila Pree Bright, Paul Kingsnorth, and many others.
Emergence Magazine is a quarterly online publication with an annual print edition. Each issue features a theme explored through innovative digital media as well as the written word.
It has always been a radical act to share stories during dark times. They are a regenerative space of creation and renewal. As we experience the desecration of our lands and waters, the extinguishing of species, and a loss of sacred connection to the earth, we look to emerging stories. In them we find the timeless connections between ecology, culture, and spirituality.
Emergence Magazine is an editorially independent initiative of Kalliopeia Foundation.

Conversation: Michael Bullock and Bruce LaBruce
‘A lot of gay teens have self-loathing, so self-love can be really constructive for them’. Ahead of the release of his thirteenth feature film, Saint-Narcisse, cult filmmaker Bruce LaBruce speaks to writer Michael Bullock about porn, punk rock and the aesthetics of radicalism.

Foam – Issue 58
Regular price SFr. 33.00 Save SFr. -33.00The fifteenth edition of Foam Magazine’s Talent Issue presents a selection of outstanding artists, each in their own way feeling the pulse of our times. In spite of the many challenges humankind was confronted with in 2020, we counted the highest number of submissions yet: 1803 entries, from 72 countries - each of which represented a message in a bottle from different parts of the world, which felt more fractured than ever. This year’s common, underlying theme is a close, sharp look at one of the most important subjects, the human condition. While being born out of the Covid-19 pandemic, this issue is also a beautiful, hopeful and refreshing statement of the possibilities our medium offers, and the exciting future ahead. We look forward to celebrating new beginnings, and new horizons.
Next to our regular features we are extremely grateful to host a conversation between Carmen Winant and Laia Abril, winner of the 2020 Paul Huf Award Prize with her long-term project A History of Misogyny. The presented chapters, Chapter One: On Abortion and Chapter Two: On Rape have been unanimously selected by the jury as a remarkable example of the possibilities for the photographic medium to engage with complex subjects. We agree that the results of her efforts need to be seen by an audience as large as possible and are very proud to be able to make our part.

Primary – Issue 4
Regular price SFr. 32.00 Save SFr. -32.00PRIMARY PAPER is a biannual print magazine. Each issue contributors offer their unique perspective on a single topic that is culturally significant and artistically relevant. The fourth issue of PRIMARY looks deeply at the theme of ‘Human’. What is it that makes us feel human? Feel natural? Feel a part of humankind? Human instincts and behaviours. What is the essence of humanity? People, places, cultures, true connections. How does our community influence us creatively?
After the unforgettable year of 2020, PRIMARY reflects on the challenges that were faced collectively, as the whole world changed together, celebrating the strengths and vulnerabilities of human resilience in these uncertain times. The desire for this issue was to offer contributors some inspiration, maybe an opportunity to create differently, a chance to revisit old archives or even just provide some sense of community in surreal times.
Some highlights of the issue include—
A study of tradition focusing on the harvest festival of Chuseok in South Korea by Andrew Jacobs and stylist Herin Choi.
A photo series by Mathieu Richer Mamousse that captures the unique cultural rituals of the Kukeri.
An abstract collaboration between Ana Cuba, Rebecca Scheinberg, Lune Kuipers, Maisie Skidmore, Sharda Fähmel and Macarena Rodriguez Pinto, that references the power of female relationships and how these relationships touch and enrich our lives.
A portrait series by Felicity Ingram celebrating the female in all its forms.
An editorial in which Hyun Woo Min uses plastic scraps from the beaches of Taean, South Korea to create a playful display of Beach Warriors.

Skateism – Issue 6
Regular price SFr. 19.00 Save SFr. -19.00SKATEISM Issue 6 – An educational issue about race.
2020 is almost over, a very challenging and eye-opening year for everyone. After seeing the BLM protests and uprisings and witnessing some people’s true colours, we wanted to use our platform to share the incredible stories of 9 skaters of color growing up in different parts of the world, their experiences, as well as their thoughts on the BLM movement. Dr. Neftalie Williams was the person that we thought would be the ideal guest editor for this issue, as he has been exploring race and diversity in skateboarding for many years now. With no restrictions or agenda, he had deep conversations with people such as Mike John, Nassim Guammaz, Khule Ngubane, Jaime Reyes, Maicol Cortez, Sal Barbier, Seu Trinh, Samarria Brevard and Thomas Teixeira.
We are hoping that this is only the beginning of a much bigger discussion, and that we continue to educate ourselves, as well as our readers through our shared passion for skateboarding.
Curves – Issue 13 (Süddeutschland)
Regular price SFr. 21.90 Save SFr.
Southern Germany actually doesn’t exist – at least not as one landscape. Not as one unit. The former great powers of Europe clawed at Baden, Swabia and Bavaria so much that the folk didn’t have time to rally themselves – or even to figure out a shared identity. Anyone traveling across the country will be amazed at the glaring differences – the extreme diversity of language and culture, cuisine and religion, temperaments and values. The former tiny principalities that made southwestern Germany a confusing patchwork still exist. Inherited from the nobility and bartered away by the clergy, the land of Baden and Württemberg was divvied up into small parcels. There is no one clear story, just a lot of chapters. The situation is completely different in Bavaria’s southeast, which was historically under one rule – a mood that still lingers today. All this makes Southern Germany extremely appealing and exciting. If you travel with your eyes wide open, you will stumble across a densely packed past and encounter a kind of people that reflects this turbulent and eventful history.
